The history of Pendleton Woolen Mills is one of opportunity, exploration and innovation. It was founded by British weaver Thomas Kay in 1863 in the Pacific Northwest. His expertise and craftsmanship is carried on today, thanks to his three grandsons, who officially opened Pendleton Woolen Mills in early 1900s in Oregon. Combining their grandfather’s skills and Native American-inspired designs, the signature designs are still seen today.
Their classic Native American designs have a story all their own. In America's history, Native American blankets had been originally made from hides and pelts -- when European craftsmanship arrived, it changed how products were made. One of Pendleton’s earliest weaver Joe Rawnsley spent time with local natives to learn about the mytholigies and design preferences and translate those ideas into vivid blanket weavings. These blankets were being traded with the native people, thus began the “Indian trade”.
Pendleton has a rich history for American-made goods. Primarily known for their wool products, you can depend on these pieces for years to come -- and to pass on to future generations. From camp blankets to cozy warm scarves, Pendleton’s high quality production is undeniable. Their 100% pure virgin wool products has been leading the industry for over 100 years.
As a vertically integrated company, Pendleton handles the manufacturing process from the ground up. From raw wool to the final product. This ensures quality production for your favorite goods.
