Fat and the Moon specializes in handcrafted, herbal body care products. Founder Rachel Budde became interested in herbalism while living in New York City. “I was amazed to learn that many of the city’s weeds have medicinal properties,” she says. “In my mind, those humble plants were transformed from symbols of ugliness and urban blight into powerful emblems of healing in a toxic environment.”
Rachel dedicated her life to the creation of natural, health-promoting products adapted from various healing traditions. She lives and works on an organic coastal farm in California’s Mendocino County, growing many of the herbs used in Fat and the Moon products.
“I provide a sustainable, natural alternative to the wasteful, toxic products sold by the large corporations in the body care industry,” she says. Handcrafted in small batches from American-grown organic ingredients, Fat and the Moon products remain extremely close to their source.
Rachel’s connection to nature and the planet guide every aspect of Fat and the Moon design, including the product packaging. Plastic is used sparingly, and containers are crafted for easy reuse and recycling.
She says, “We should take as much care selecting the things we put on our bodies as we do in shopping for the foods we put in them.” That is what Rachel does on our behalf in every Fat and the Moon product.
