Said to have started right here in the states, Father's Day was brought to recognition by a woman named Sonora Dodd in the early 1900s. Dodd's mother died when she was a teenager and was basically raised by her father. Able to still give his children a home, food, clothes, and love, should not go unnoticed. There was already a day dedicated to mothers, but not fathers. And so, Dodd decided that all fathers should be given a day to be rewarded for all the love they give to their children and the hard work they do. The first Father's Day was celebrated in 1910. It officially was marked on calendars in 1966.
