A few weeks ago, I shot the grand opening for Makers Market. You may remember the photos I took at the grand opening party for their San Francisco location. Suzy, the owner, most recently closed down her SF location and opened up a brand new store in Santana Row, San Jose.
Makers Market was founded on the idea of preserving American made goods. Before the Industrial Revolution, America was mainly comprised of artisans. We were makers, thinkers, and tinkerers. Mass production weakened our creativity and Makers Market is pioneering the return of the maker movement in America.
Every 2nd Saturday of the month, there is an outdoor market in the courtyard outside of the shop. The first outdoor market coincided with the grand opening. As a frequenter of large craft fairs, the outdoor market is small and intimate, letting you chat with the makers without having to shout over the noise of crowd. The upcoming dates are July 9th, August 13th, and September 10th. At the July market, they’ll have a flower crown making tutorial by Soaps of 7 Flowers. Can you believe in all of my girly girl years of existence, I’ve never ONCE made a flower crown?!!
I got to meet one of my blog readers, Kristen, at the market too, which was super fun! Here’s her and her adorable daughter, Frida. So sweet!
If you share the July Makers Market in the Park event via Facebook, you could win a $50 gift certificate. (Go to the event page, click the ‘Invite’ button on the right below the banner, and choose friends you’d love to attend with. Each friend you share the event with counts as an entry.) The winner will be announced Friday, July 8th.
Next on Makers Market’s agenda is trying to secure a San Francisco store. I am so excited to see this business supporting small businesses grow! If you’re in the Bay Area, definitely check out their flagship location:
377 Santana Row
San Jose, CA 95128
If you’re not in the area, visit their online shop here.
